1:00-2:00 Cake Decorating 5th-12th grade
Learn to decorate cakes and cupcakes. 5th grade and up.
Materials needed: See Syllabus - Icing to all classes except the first. towel, scissors, kits & binder that I will provide. They will also need to bring various other items as per class syllabus.

Cake Decorating Syllabus

Items Students need to bring to class:
¨ 2nd class through 12th class:
· Apron
· Bath towel that is okay to stain (preferably not a plush one)
· 2 small clothes that are okay to stain (thin white washcloths are great)
· Scissors
· Decorating kits (to be passed out at 1st or 2nd class)
· Butter Cream Icing on Class Days indicated below
· 3 (2cup) bowls with lids for mixing icing/color
· Royal Icing on Class Days indicated below
· Container to take home finished work when doing flowers, cupcakes or 6” cake
First Class –
· Discuss decorating tools,
· Pass out butter cream icing recipe
· Discuss types of color
· Discuss Cakes pass out recipes – White, Chocolate & Strawberry
Second Class –
· Student needs to Bring Butter Cream Icing
· Learn about bags, how to fit couplers/tips/bags together
· How to change tips using same color of icing
· Discuss how to hold the bag
· Play with Tips – Writing, stars, zig-zag and shell boarder
Third Class –
· Student needs to Bring Butter Cream Icing (can be last weeks icing)
· Decorate a cakepan using stars, zig-zag, shell boarder and writing after smoothing icing
· Bring cake pan 8”, 9” or square whatever size you have.
Fourth Class –
· Student needs to Bring Butter Cream Icing (can bring leftover icing from last week)
· Practice with Tips to make drop flowers, leaves, balls, other boarders
· Bring a cake pan 8”, 9” or square whatever size you have.
Fifth Class –
· Student needs to Bring butter Cream icing (can bring icing from last week)
· Practice with Tips to make ribbon roses
Sixth Class –
· Student needs to bring butter cream icing (can bring icing from last week)
· Practice with Tips to make Wilton Roses
· Discuss Royal icing reminder recipe is in folder
Seventh Class –
· Students need to bring Butter Cream Icing
· Learn to do smooth cupcakes and rose cupcakes
· Decorate Cupcakes, bring container to take finished product home.
Eighth Class –
· Student needs to bring Royal icing and container to put creations in (plastic or muffin tin)
· Learn to make drop flowers, stars, balls, leaves, rose buds, apple blossoms, primrose, daffodils, violets and Wilton Rose with Royal Icing
Ninth Class –
· Student needs to bring Royal icing and container to put creations in (plastic or muffin tin)
· The flowers we didn’t get to last week we will work on this week. (Learn to make drop flowers, stars, balls, leaves, rose buds, apple blossoms, primrose, daffodils, violets and Wilton Rose with Royal Icing)
Tenth Class –
· Students need to bring Butter Cream Icing (needs to be a fresh batch will be eating)
· Will be decorating 6” single layer cake
· Learn to do piping gel transfers
· Bring Container to take finished product home (needs to fit 8” board)
Eleventh Class –
· Student needs to bring Butter Cream Icing
· Will be decorating cake pan with a basket weave
· Bring a cake pan 8”, 9”, 10” or square whatever size you have.
Twelfth Class –
· Students need to bring Butter Cream Icing and if desire bring royal icing creations
· Decorate Cupcakes using what we have learned
